I sure have had a struggle keeping my head above water, lately. Between pain and depression... I think I may be drowning.I did have an interesting trip to town yesterday. I saw the physical therapist and he told me not to go back to the surgeon, but to see another back surgeon. He said I definitely needed a second opinion. But, he cautioned me not to tell my back surgeon what he said or he wouldn't get anymore physical therapy referrals from that surgeon. I was complaining that my surgeon didn't listen and he said he had heard that complaint from alot of his patients.
Then I had another appointment with my regular doctor and he told me the same thing. "We need a second opinion because your surgeon is not listening."Like I said it was interesting.
So, now.... to find another doctor and one that will listen. I think when I see a new doctor, my first question to him will be... "Do you listen?"
By-the-way... do any of you have suggestions on how to find a top notch back surgeon? I sure could use some help here.

Annie. Ask you regular physician if he can refer you to a neurological surgeon. You may have to go to a bigger city, but you will finally get what you need, which is probably going to be back surgery of the right kind. Good luck. So sorry this guy did you no good. You can get rid of this pain. I did. As for the type, who knows?
Actually, my primary did mention a doctor yesterday and I have researched him on the internet. He looks impressive, but I also know someone who he operated on twice. Both surgeries turned out very badly. Sooo... I don't know what to think.
You know... doctors get in ruts just like everyone else. I talked to my primary's receptionist today and she told me that my primary always recommends that one doctor from Medford. He is the doctor that botched my friend's surgery.
Then... I looked at some of the other neurosurgeons in Medford and was very impressed with a doctor Louie... but he seemed to be mostly a brain surgeon. So, that same receptionist called over to Medford to check for me and found out that Dr. Louie just retired. Geez... I'm not having much luck here. Also, my Hubby just stopped to see a friend of his who had good success in Medford and it turned out that Louie had done his surgery. I'm really sad over this guy's retirement now.
I've been on the computer researching neurosurgeons all day and also on the phone with anyone I know who has had successful back surgery. Now my back is killing me from sitting and doing all of the research. Hubby just wants me to make an appointment today and I'm having a hard time telling him I want to do more research and to give me time.
I've also contacted a shirt-tail relative who is an ortho guy at the University of New Mexico. He gave me some advice on the first round of surgery and I didn't listen to him. I apologized for not listening and have told him I am now desperate. Hopefully, he will give me a little direction this time. We shall see.
I know I will have to go to a bigger city. Medford isn't that much bigger than Klamath, but they seem to have great doctors there. I'll let you know what I decide.
Thanks for all the advice - Annie :o)
Annie. I wish I could help. Love ya, take care.
Thanks Tracy. I need some magic dust sprinkled over me. I did have a friend who prayed for me today when I called him. Right now, I'm really tired and hurting. I've been on the phone and computer all day looking at different surgeons in Oregon. It is difficult to know who is good and who to avoid. I found one I really liked and he had done surgery on a friend. But... now I find this surgeon has just retired at the first of this year. Rats!!!! Just my luck. Oh well... I'll keep searching.

Hang in there Annie and remember... We love you
Thank you AL. It has been awhile since I have talked with you. I can't sit at the computer long enough to get around to other blogs and I really do miss the connections. Hopefully, I will be better soon. Thanks for the love and caring. - Annie :o)
My daughter had back pain for a long time. She refused to get treatments from any doctor except a Neurosurgeon. Operations are a last resort. The Dr. gave her an injection. I believe it was similar to an epideural (sp). About 3 days later she got the first relief from pain in years. Get your Dr. to refer you to a Neurosurgeon. Don't let anyone else do it.
